THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Behavioral Health & Wellness Center, a unique practice that uses a multimodal integrated team approach to treat the whole client and their significant others by focusing on parent counseling, family and marital therapy in addition to Individual therapy, recently announced that it is hosting a parent workshop starting July 17.

4-week program starts July 17

The four-week workshop, called ‘Mistakes Parents Make When Sending Their Kids Off to College and How to Avoid Them,’ is for parents about to send their kids off to college. It will take place on Wednesdays from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the Center located at 2700 Research Forest Dr. #130 in The Woodlands. Dr. Jeanie McCusker, LPC, CSC, Certified College Access Counselor will be the facilitator. The cost for the entire workshop is $260.

The workshop covers multiple aspects of parenting and accompanying errors, including:

Underestimating College Challenges – College students encounter a variety of challenges, including social adjustments, mental health struggles like anxiety and depression, and time management issues. Being informed about these potential hurdles can help parents better support their children as they navigate this new environment.

Ineffective Communication and Not Allowing Kids to Fail – While it’s natural for a parent to want to protect their child from failure, shielding them from every mistake can prevent them from learning valuable life lessons. The workshop will educate parents on allowing their childred to experience challenges and figure out solutions on their own. This helps build resilience and problem-solving skills.

Ignoring Available Resources – Colleges offer a wide range of services, including academic support, mental health resources, and student organizations. The workshop will encourage parents to familiarize themselves with these resources so they can guide their children to the help they need when they encounter difficulties.

Supporting Students with ADHD, ADD, Anxiety, Depression, or Learning Plans – For students with these issues, the transition to college can be particularly challenging. The workshop will teach parents to encourage their children to familiarize themselves with available mental health resources on campus, such as counseling services, and how to advocate for themselves in academic and mental health settings, empowering them to take charge of their own needs.

“Prepare to support your college-bound child with confidence. Our workshop series will help you understand the challenges they face, teach effective communication strategies, and introduce you to essential resources. Learn how to balance guidance with independence, ensuring your child succeeds both academically and personally. Don’t miss this chance to empower your child's college journey and strengthen your relationship,” said representatives from the Center.

The Woodlands Behavioral Health & Wellness Center specializes in supporting students with ADHD, ADD, anxiety, and depression through individual, family, and group therapy. Parents are encouraged to call 281-528-4226 to schedule a complimentary consultation to see if the workshop and the Center would be a good fit for their needs.
