Montgomery County DA Ligon announces 2024 District Attorney’s Citizen Prosecutor Academy

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon is pleased to announce that his office is now accepting applications for the 2024 Citizen Prosecutor Academy. This long standing program will provide a behind the scenes look at what goes on in your District Attorney’s Office. The 10-week course will start on September 9, 2024, and conclude with a graduation ceremony for participants on November 18, 2024.

The District Attorney’s Office has an essential role in protecting the community and holding offenders accountable. During this course, participants will hear from prosecutors and investigators on a variety of topics, including murder investigations, human trafficking, Grand Jury, internet crimes against children, and the anatomy of a criminal jury trial. The tentative course schedule is as follows:

  • Week 1: September 9 Academy Overview & Welcoming Remarks
  • Week 2: September 16 The Criminal Justice Process
  • Week 3: September 23 Anatomy of a Jury Trial
  • Week 4: September 30 Crimes Against Children – Physical & Sexual Abuse
  • Week 5: October 7 Public Integrity / Officer Involved Shootings
  • Week 6: October 14 Vehicular Crimes / No Refusal Program
  • Week 7: October 21 Family Violence
  • Week 8: October 28 ICAC and Human Trafficking
  • Week 9: November 4 White Collar / Asset Forfeiture
  • Week 10: November 18 Law Enforcement Q&A / Graduation Ceremony
