THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Today, along with two of his colleagues, Richard Franks filed to run for re-election as a member of the Board of Directors for The Woodlands Township in the November election.

Franks campaigned two years ago promising to create a President’s Council of Village Presidents among several other collaborative ideas. Day one he went to work, and the first executed campaign promise was, in fact, the Presidents Council. The monthly Village President’s Council provides a firsthand opportunity to the members to meet with and hear from other public officials as well as Township staff. Additionally, the members of the Presidents Council have a chance to discuss with officials issues affecting their villages.

Franks was also instrumental in the creation a full-page article with Township news in the monthly Community Impact. He also proposed the delivery of the bi-monthly Community Magazine to be delivered to all residents including apartment complexes.

He serves on Visit The Woodlands Board. This Board promotes tourism and specialty state and national events which brings in significant revenue to help reduce our residents’ taxes.

Franks aggressively pursued and supported Homestead Exemption changes, by voting for an increase to the 65 and older exemption and offering the FIRST Woodlands Township exemption to all homeowners on their principal residence.

Working with his running mates they worked with the State Legislature to get approved for The Woodlands Township to receive a portion of the mixed beverage tax collected by the State of Texas on sales of alcoholic beverages and mixers within The Woodlands.

As Treasurer, Franks established the Board Budget Task Force Committee to insure a more in-depth study of Township Budget Initiatives. Franks also plans to continue to work on establishing positive, collaborative relationships with state, county, city and community intergovernmental partners.

“We’ve built a beautiful and thriving community in The Woodlands,” said Franks. “Our taxes are low, and the government is small. It’s the perfect place to live, raise a family and build a business.

Joining Richard in his re-election announcement were fellow Directors, Brad Bailey and Linda Nelson. Additionally, Craig Eissler filed to run with the incumbents.
