Houston Burlesque Artist Sets New World Record for World Burlesque Day 2024

HOUSTON, TX -- After a sparkling World Burlesque Day that exceeded expectations reaching 151 countries Ginger Hughes from Houston helped to achieve setting a new World Record for the World’s Largest Online Burlesque Class! And is bringing a show north of Houston.

With an aim to showcase to the world that burlesque is fun for mental health and body positivity, the artist Ginger Hughes from Houston joined an online attempt it was a huge success with participants from many countries taking part exceeding the previous year of countries reached significantly.

The activation was created to raise awareness of the art form of burlesque and to bring the many countries who have a scene together as well as to welcome newcomers were curious to try a dance class via Zoom.

Created by entrepreneur and mental health ambassador, Sapphira, World Burlesque Day is celebrated every 26 April and this year the World Record Attempt took place making it a huge global achievement.

“I am so delighted we set a new World Record and to know I was part of it feels incredible,” says Ginger Hughes. “I literally could not stop smiling during the whole online class, it was incredible to know over 155 people were there from all over the world and I know for many people it was their first time trying burlesque and they loved it. This really cements my belief that this dance is a true life-enhancing activity, I know how much it has changed my life and self-belief in my own body confidence. I hope all the newcomers will keep going and continue as we all need a better way to overcome mental health struggles.”

Co-hosted by Sapphira, Ginger Fatale at Soul on Fire Dance in the USA and Ellie Etoile’s Burlesque in the UK all the organizations who took part are delighted to have achieved this together.

The record was validated by Official World Record who are a unique world records register organisation recognised by the Council of the Notarias of the European Union (Notaries of Europe) and official Notary Colleges worldwide. They will be attended online from Barcelona, Spain, to ensure event registered in accordance with the requirements to confirm it permanently once the class is complete.

To add to the celebrations, Erik Lee Preminger, son of America’s iconic Gypsy Rose Lee made a brief appearance, too.

What is Burlesque?
Burlesque is a style of dance that stems from theatre and comedy which has experienced a revival over the past 20 years. It has a focus on the tasteful element of tease and helps many participants with body confidence.
