THE WOODLANDS, TX – The 23rd anniversary of the terror attacked on September 11, 2001, against the nation was marked by a solemn but ultimately uplifting commemoration ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Conroe.

‘Never Forget: Patriot Day’ was presented by the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission on Freedom Boulevard just off Interstate 45 in a ceremony that commenced at 8:30 a.m. on 9/11/24.

Judge Wayne Mack, Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace, was the master of ceremonies and conducted the event respectfully and humanely. After a welcome by commission chairman Jimmie Edwards and the presentation of colors by the honor guards of the City of Conroe Fire and Police Departments, the national anthem was sung by Tommi Hamilton, a member of the Montgomery County Choral Society. City of Conroe Councilman David Hairel provided the invocation.

Judge Mack introduced Mo Sims of Conroe business Buzzard Industries, who gave remarks on the impact of 9/11 and its aftermath. Afterwards, City of Conroe Fire Chief Michael Legoudes provided the Final Call message and closing remarks. Elizabeth Woods, the executive director for the commission, gave the heartfelt closing remarks, followed bny a benediction given by commission board member Pastor Anthony Shelton.

The commemoration concluded with a rendition of Amazing Grace by Brandon Keilers on the bagpipes, the lowering of the First Responders Flag by the ceremony’s honor guards, and the performance of Taps by Cory Strouth of the United States Army.

“We will never forget this day. We will remember those that were lost. Our nation is eternally grateful for those who were immediately on the scene and answered the call. We honor their selfless sacrifice during the tragic events that changed our lives forever. We honor, reflect, and salute all First Responders,” said the Commission in the program.
