HS Volleyball: Grand Oaks Sweeps Oak Ridge in 3 Sets Putting Them in the First Place

SPRING, TX -- Grand Oaks (25-6) volleyball sweeps Oak Ridge (26-7) in 3 sets putting them in the first place position for the district.

Tonight the grizzlies student section led by student body president Dean Davidson were dressed in black attire for blackout.

At the start of the first set the Lady War Eagles took the game with Senior Setter Bradi Rhodes having a 10 point serving streak.

After a timeout by Coach Rogers at 0-10 the Lady Grizzlies were able to come back 12-7 after that taking the game.

With some impressive offensive plays from Halle Thompson and Samara Coleman the War Eagles libero Brooklyn Mcquery was able to hold them off during the first two sets.

After an injury of the Sophomore libero the War Eagles took a set back. Giving the Lady Grizzlies the first set with a score of 25-22.

“Even after being injured I did what I could for my team to hold them off and keep us up” Said Mcquery.

In the second set the Lady Grizzlies had impressive serving runs from Junior Defensive Specialist Hailey Lostpeich and Cali Reece.

The Lady War Eagles held off the strong offensive team that the Lady Grizzlies are with an even stronger offense with strong hits from Senior Layla Porter. As well, sophomore Micah Rushers immediately shutting down the option of running the middle with her strong and quick blocks.

The Lady Grizzlies ended up taking the set 25-11 despite best efforts.

In the final set the Lady War Eagles tried a new offense with Junior Karli Glover playing as the starting outside. With Glovers fast down the line swing the Lady War Eagles took the first half of the games.

“ It was a very hard fought set” said Glover “ we gave it all in the defense and the blocks”.

Senior Gianna Malone on the Right Side shutdown any possibilities of a slide or a Right Side hit or dump from the 6-1 on the other side. Being a big contribute to the 3rd set in blocks and kills.

Lady Grizzlies team Captain Samara Coleman said “ Gianna Malone was a big contributor the whole game and really stepped up securing our win”.

A reset in the defense for the Lady Grizzlies after a timeout led to a victory in 3 with the last game being 25-19.
