CONROE, TX -- The Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) partnered with the USO to collect donations for USO Houston, including those Centers for service men and women and their families inside Houston’s airports. The MCMLS met with USO staff in August to set up donation areas at each of their seven library branches. The donation boxes were spread out across Montgomery County for three weeks during September and October.

Over 500 items donated

The USO had a wish list, including one on Amazon, to help supply those who serve. Items requested for donation included snack items, canned sodas, microwavable meals, coffee, individual hygiene items, and travel size goods.

“For over 80 years the USO has been supporting our service members and their families around the world,” according to the USO. “Items collected will help support USO Houston and our three Centers spread across the Greater Houston Area.”

The USO Centers also include an area inside airports and at the Military Entrance Processing Station for service men and women to borrow and swap books to read as they travel.

“We are thankful to our library patrons who have taken the time to donate more than 500 items and books for this cause,” MCMLS Public Relations Specialist Mandy Faulkner said, “It’s a rewarding way to support our military heroes.”

Espiridion “Speedy” Zuniga Senior Center Operations Specialist, USO – Houston said “It’s truly incredible to have the support of organizations like your libraries, and the wonderful community of Montgomery County. Your generosity reassures our service members and their families that they are supported as they protect our freedoms.”

“Support USO Houston by donating, volunteering, or partnering with us to uplift our service members and their families,” Zuniga said. “Your contribution helps provide vital programs and services to those who sacrifice so much for our nation. Together, we can make a lasting impact!”
