THE WOODLANDS, TX – Interfaith of The Woodlands recently held a special two-fer event in commemoration of the golden anniversary of The Woodlands. The morning kicked off with an outdoor reception – complete with tents, breakfast, live music, and recognitions – for the venerable nonprofit organization’s annual Day of Giving. As part of the celebration, the driveway of the facility was converted into a drop-off area for a food drive.

Missy Herndon, president and CEO of Interfaith of The Woodlands, was grateful for the large turnout at the early morning event. “We’re so excited to benefit from the 50th anniversary here with our Day of Giving and the community wide food drive,” she told Woodlands Online. “Our highest needs right now are food and crisis assistance. Food is something everybody can always contribute, whether they bring a can from their food pantry or run and get bags at the grocery store like several of our congregations and partners have done. We’re so excited to fill up our pantry to supply the need of others in this holiday season.”

One of the special guests was Dr. Ann Snyder, director of The Woodlands Township. “Interfaith is the foundation of The Woodlands, so of course they play an integral role in everything that we do,” she told Woodlands Online. “They are the original hometown nonprofit as well as believing that all faiths, all ethnicities, all cultures, all ages and all social economic groups are part of this great community. It’s that spirit of generosity that is so critical and what has made the woodlands number one.”

Along with live music – including an original tribute to the history of The Woodlands by Lorrie Parise of Howard Hughes and her band – was a concert given by the young children of Interfaith’s Child Development Center.

The celebration was part of the ongoing weeklong events marking the 50th anniversary of The Woodlands, ending Saturday.
