MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Montgomery County 2024 tax statements are in the mail! Over 374,000 statements will be mailed next week according to Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector Tammy McRae.

The Montgomery County Tax Office is pleased to offer numerous payment options including:

• Online using Credit/Debit Card
• By Phone 1-800-351-7929
• e-Check
• Pay in Person Using Credit/Debit Card at any of the 6 tax office locations
• Pay by Mail in the envelope provided

Skip the Line- Schedule an Appointment Online- this feature is available for all tax office locations. Simply go to the Tax Office website and select the time you would like to come into the office to make your payment. Remember, you can also pay your taxes at our new Willis office, located at 804 W. Montgomery St., Willis TX 77378.

“We are pleased to provide free e-Check services and lower convenience fees to our taxpayers. The convenience fee charged by the vendor to pay by credit is 2.08% and 1% for debit cards,” said McRae. Taxpayers may pay online by going to http://mctotx.org and select Property Tax or access their individual account by scanning the QR code on the statement with a smart device. Tax statements can also be downloaded from the website. Tax statements for properties paid through mortgage escrow accounts were sent to the requesting mortgage company. A printable version of the receipt is available online and paper receipts will be issued upon request.

Taxpayers are urged to contact the Tax Office if they have not received their tax statement by mid November. “It is important that a property owner contact us if they do not receive their statement,” said McRae. All payments, including metered mail, online bill pay and e-checks, must bear a USPS postmark or be received on or before January 31st. Depositing payments in a USPS collection box does not guarantee a postmark for that day and could result in the accrual of penalty and interest if done on or near a delinquency date. Property taxes must be paid by January 31, 2025, to avoid incurring penalties and interest.

Section 31.031 of the Property Tax Code allows individuals who are disabled/disabled veteran/surviving spouse of a disabled veteran or at least 65 years of age and qualify for a homestead exemption to choose an installment payment option on the property in which the homestead is claimed. Late payments will be charged penalty and interest per the Property Tax Code.

For additional information, please visit the tax office website or call 936-539-7897. “We look forward to serving the needs of the taxpayers of Montgomery County” states Ms. McRae.
