THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Christian Academy recently held its 7th annual High School Gingerbread Decorating Contest on campus in a frenzy of frosting and fun, as nearly thirty teams of students worked feverishly to get fully realized gingerbread houses completed in an hour.

Interact Club volunteers set up the David Gym for the event, which was sponsored by the school’s Student Council. Teams – adorned in themed costumes – took their stations and brought their culinary creativity (one of the rules of the competition was that everything used had to be edible).

Once the hour was up, the teams celebrated, but didn’t learn the winner for several days, due to the final judging occurring from the lower school. The judges scored the houses based on overall appearance, theme, originality/creativity, use of materials, team presentation, and costumes.

The overall winning team of female students – with Ellen Watt as Group Leader and overseen by Faculty Leader Wendy Ruffner – designed a ski lodge situated on a snow mountain made of Rice Krispy treats, complete with a ski lift composed of peppermint sticks, Ritz crackers, and edible dental floss.

The Woodlands Christian Academy is an independent, Christ-centered college preparatory school that integrates learning with Biblical faith and spiritual growth, and challenges students to reach their highest potential – intellectually, creatively, physically and socially.

The winners for the best costumes were:

  • Campbell/Koppelman - Starbucks
  • Martin- Jesus: The Way, Truth, and Life

Winners for 2024 best house:

  • Ambler/McKenny - The Grinch
  • Sanders/Gauthier - Ski Lodge

2024 Honorable Mention:

  • Goedeke/Crowley - Costco
  • Field/Larkin - Game Day
