MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- This week’s Veteran is Curtis Robinson, who served in the U.S. Army 1959-1961. He recently viewed the art at the Menil Collection a day after the recent snow event. Curtis was stationed in Stuttgart, West Germany, during the heavy days of Cold War Europe. Robinson played the Cello, which looks like a big violin, and was a member of the U.S. 7th Army Symphony Orchestra, and Soldiers' Show Company. The band toured different countries in Europe, especially those areas which were war ravaged. They also entertained at festivals, on and off NATO bases, and at concert halls; and Robinson was on the road for nine months out of the year. After his service with the Army, Curtis taught band in Flint, Michigan for twenty years, then he moved to Houston, where he again taught band for another two decades for Spring Branch ISD. He is 92 now, and still full of life. Good Luck Curtis, and Congratulations on being ‘Veteran of the Week’.
