National Charity League, The Magnolias Chapter, Announces Results of Recent Philanthropy Partner Event
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Magnolias Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. (NCL), the nation’s premier mother-daughter volunteer organization, has announced the results of recent philanthropy event honoring the National Day of Service and Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy Through Literacy in which The Magnolias Chapter collected nearly 1,200 books and crafted 562 bookmarks to benefit patients at Houston Methodist Hospital in The Woodlands and foster youth supported by The Champion Project - Love Big, Change Lives.
This effort is part of the final year of the NCL MLK Book Drive Initiative, a remarkable three-year campaign during which chapters nationwide have donated nearly 300,000 books. As we celebrate our centennial year, we are striving to reach a cumulative goal of 1 million books—a testament to NCL’s commitment to service and community impact.
By addressing the critical need for literacy, we honor Dr. King’s vision of service and unity while living out NCL’s mission to connect hearts, hands, and minds to ensure every community thrives.
“The impact National Charity League has had on Houston Methodist Hospital The Woodlands and The Champion Project over the years in The Woodlands has allowed us to do more for the community than we ever thought possible,” said Ruth Noring, The Magnolias NCL MLK Book Drive Chair. “These teen girls and their moms have impacted hundreds of lives by volunteering their time and talent to collect books for all ages, create bookmarks, organize and distribute to the beneficiary organizations and for that we will always be grateful.”
Overall, The Magnolias Chapter mother-daughter teams volunteered 5,216 philanthropy hours so far in the 2024-2025 year for over a dozen philanthropic organizations in the community, including Easter Seals, The Woodlands Children's Museum, Interfaith The Woodlands, and Meals on Wheels.
Over the past year, the Chapter has created blankets for Project Linus, provided summer reading and tutoring services for The Champion Project, and created homemade sympathy cards for Little Angel Network, just to name a few.
