THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Texas Heritage Trails Program invites visitors from The Woodlands and beyond to come celebrate the life of The Raven himself, Sam Houston, on Saturday, April 26. That’s the date of General Sam Houston Day, held at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library grounds located at 1836 Sam Houston Avenue in Huntsville.

For this celebration, you get to step back in time for an event honoring Sam Houston and his times – specifically 1793 - 1863 – and enjoy historical demonstrations, hands-on activities, and period music. Tour the homes the Houstons lived in and gain access into the Steamboat House and the 19th century period cabins on the property.

The events on the grounds and admission into the museum are free and last from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase onsite. You are welcome to bring your own food to picnic on the grounds but no glass containers. Parking will be available at 1402 19th Street, at the museum’s Katy and E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center. Overflow parking is available in the parking lot just north of the museum, at 17th Street and Avenue M (this is a SHSU dorm parking lot).

This is a rain or shine event unless the weather is dangerous to visitors. Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for updates, or contact Megan Buro, marketing manager, at mlb044@shsu.edu.
