GAINESVILLE, FL -- After a brutal 41-17 loss to the rivaling Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, the Florida Gators and freshman quarterback D.J. Lagway may be forced into an increased role.

No amount of stellar play from Lagway was going to save the floundering Gators from defeat, but a wave of energy swept through The Swamp upon his entrance.

The freshman was thrust into action following an injury to 2nd-year starter Graham Mertz. The entire offense struggled against the stringent Hurricane defense, but a major blow came in the third quarter, when Mertz was rocked with a concussion.

Lagway was called in to finish the game, leading the Gators on a touchdown scoring drive to eat at the insurmountable Miami lead.

With Samford on the schedule for Saturday, Florida Head Coach Billy Napier noted the increased reps that Lagway would be recieving during practice. The Lagway era may have a sooner start than most were thinking.
