Believe it or not, we’ll be in March by the time this weekend ends, and a few short weeks after that it will officially be spring. This weekend, however, the thermometer couldn’t wait for the official calendar page-turn. Our weekend will be moderate, if not a tad unseasonably warm on Saturday.

A plummeting humidity means our high of 78 – which we’re at now for the next hour or so – won’t have any digits added to it in a heat index. What little cloud cover we’ve experienced today will also waft away, cranking up the UV index for a bit, so as funny as it sounds you’ll need to spray or dab on some sunscreen if you plan to be out and about. If you’re a parent needing a break from the kiddos, drop them off at Woodlands Sportsplex in time for their Parents Night Out this evening. As the mercury plunges into the 50s tonight for a balmy low, the clouds might return and drop a little rain for a couple of hours, just enough maybe to water the lawn for you… or smear your windshield.

As The Legacy Capital The Woodlands Marathon gets its thousands of runners queued up at the starting line, we’ll still be at our low of 51, and in fact most of the marathoners will be done with the race and kicking back at home before the temperature gets up out of the 70s. But don’t be fooled; by mid-afternoon, we’ll actually be at 83 degrees, although not for long. It’s another moderately cool night with the thermometer swiftly showing readings in the 50s again before it gets too late.

On Sunday, it’ll feel – and actually be – much cooler, shedding about 10 degrees of what you experienced the day before. Winds will increase all morning and early afternoon, topping out at about 14 mph, adding to the coolness, along with some better cloud cover. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a pickleball lesson or two in this sweet spot between winter coolness and springtime heat. Around dinnertime, expect the winds to drop but the clouds to continue, as overnight there’s an increasing chance of some cool rain.

While a gloomier end to the weekend over its start, grab the umbrellas because you can expect some precipitation to fall around midweek…
