Spanish Flowers comes up to The Woodlands

If you've ever been to the Houston Heights area, chances are you've eaten at (or at least heard of) Spanish Flowers Cocina Mexicana, a Mexican food mainstay in the area since 1979. Recently, the Old World charm of the original fused with Woodlands haute cuisine to bring a new location to The Woodlands Waterway area.

Spanish Flowers - The Woodlands is located on the backside of Woodlands Mall, across from the Barnes & Noble and Cheesecake Factory. Woodlands Online recently excursioned out for a dinner there, and was pleasantly surprised.

We were surprised to hear the restaurant had officially opened on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, according to Manager Chris who told us with a rueful laugh, the demand far outweighed the supply, and the opening ended with mixed results by the end of that day.

That being said, the management and staff have taken the two months since and tightened the menu and service to top-notch levels. There are essentially two menus here; the 'front menu' loaded with upscale dishes including several meant for sharing, and then the 'backside' that features Spanish Flowers' classic 'old school menu' such as flautas and enchiladas.

Of particular note is the appetizer list, which includes an avodaco seafood salad dish that is simply mouthwatering. Whether you go for tilapia, lamb, or tacos al carbon, the chef will do you and your tastebuds right. If there's room after the main course, try the tres leches cake, which is roughly the size of a motorcycle battery.

We wholeheartedly recommend you try this new addition to The Woodlands culinary scene.
