Are you a Highly Sensitive Person?

Have you noticed yourself or your child responding negatively to over-stimulation when there is a lot of sensory input? Research suggests if you are, you could be a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), also called Sensory-Processing Sensitivity (SPS, the clinical term).
You may be a HSP if you get anxious when there is a lot going on around you, if you are bothered by mess and chaos or if you notice subtle changes in your environment and register it as too intense or confusing.
If this applies to you, one thing to keep in mind for you or your child is: YOU ARE NOT ALONE! This trait is quite common! It is OKAY to be sensitive, unlike the negative stigma surrounding susceptibility suggests. Up to 20% of the population experiences similar feelings of overstimulation that creates distressing emotions.
Things to monitor to make you less vulnerable to fussy environments are to meet your needs:
Eat, drink, exercise and take any medications for optimal stabilization. Next is to prepare yourself for when you are going to be in an atmosphere that heightens your senses: ear plugs, headphones, calming essential oils, etc.
