Description

Looking for a special home for our cat, Leyla.

She's about 8 yrs old. We adopted her about four years ago when my wife's mother passed away (she had had her since she was 8 weeks old). Type: Domestic shorthair, healthy, spayed and declawed, litter box trained. She is very affectionate and quiet (hardly ever meows), loves to sit in your lap or nearby.

Why are we offering her for adoption? Long story, short - we have an 11-yr old chocolate lab dog, who Leyla happens to get along with great. But, about a year ago, our son moved to Virginia and couldn't take his young dog, also a chocolate lab, with him. So, we wound up with two large dogs - an older, mellow one, the other, quite active and rambuctious. The younger one has a tendency to bark at and want to play with Leyla, which winds up being a little too much for her. We initially thought, over a period of time, the dog would settle down and not be as playful with Leyla. Unfortunately, though, every time the younger dog sees Leyla, she runs after her, wanting to play. Leyla, being quiet and reserved, doesn't want anything to do with this, so she has a tendency to go upstairs and keep to herself. Generally sleeping under the bed comforter. She's quite content keeping to herself, but my wife feels guilty that she is not getting the love and attention that she deserves. So, rather than keeping her and have her continue her semi-solitary life upstairs, with hardly any companionship, we've decided it would be better, for her sake, if we found her a more comfortable, loving home to go to. Ideal situation - no young children or dogs, perhaps an older couple or single person seeking a cat's loving companionship and able to offer a quiet, peaceful environment. I assure you, Leyla will make a great companion. We truly hate to not be able to keep her, but are also convinced she can have a better-suited home and be happier in the long run, if we find her the right environment.

We will be fairly picky as to who Leyla goes to make her new home with. If you think you fit the type/situation described above, we would love to hear from you. We are charging an adoption fee of $35 to ensure that whoever takes her is serious about wanting the right cat and taking care of her. For the right person/household, we are willing to waive the fee, open to discussion.
