Othram, a leader in forensic DNA technology, is proud to announce its Cold Case Hackathon, a groundbreaking initiative to solve the growing backlog of unidentified human remains cases in the United States. Over 15,000 John and Jane Does remain nameless in NamUs, the national database designed to assist law enforcement in identifying these individuals. Despite the existence of advanced forensic DNA technology and available funding, many of these cases remain unsolved due to a lack of awareness and resources.

Othram is calling on fearless, mission-driven college kids to join its Cold Case Hackathon to help push these cases forward and bring justice to the families who need answers. With two key phases—an intensive two-day training and a four-week mission—participants will gain the tools, knowledge, and support to drive real change in the field of forensic science.

How It Works:
• Step 1: Two-Day Intensive Training
Participants will undergo a hands-on training session at Othram’s headquarters in The Woodlands, TX, where they will learn how to become effective Cold Case Hackers. Attendees will be equipped with the necessary skills to educate law enforcement agencies, overcome barriers, and ensure that cases are solved. Lunch will be provided.
• Step 2: Join the Hackathon Cohort
Following the training, top performers will be selected to join a four-week mission aimed at addressing the backlog of unidentified John and Jane Doe cases. The mission will involve up to 20 hours of work per week, during which participants will engage with law enforcement agencies, medical examiners, and coroners to onboard cases into Othram’s portal.

What’s Required:
• Attend the two-day training at Othram’s headquarters in The Woodlands, TX
• If selected, commit to 4 weeks of work (up to 20 hours per week)
• Lead conversations with law enforcement and medical professionals to educate and motivate them in solving cases

What You Get:
• $15 per hour + unlimited commission based on case success
• Real-world experience working at the intersection of forensic science, technology, and law enforcement
• The chance to be part of something bigger than yourself by contributing to solving these unsolvable cases
• A front-row seat to transforming forensic investigations using advanced DNA technology

Key Dates:
• Training Dates: March 17–18, 2025, from 10 AM – 4 PM
• Cohort 1 Selection: March 19, 2025
• Cohort 1 Dates: March 20 – April 18, 2025

This is a unique opportunity for individuals who thrive on challenges, are not afraid to speak up, and are committed to solving cold cases. Othram is looking for individuals who can fire up agencies, drive action, and ultimately help solve the mysteries surrounding unidentified human remains.
