Route Driver
What the Route Driver is responsible for:
• Drive a company provided vehicle (after training is complete, the vehicle may be driven home)
• Complete a dedicated route based on a schedule, visiting sites to collect samples (water and wastewater samples)
• Ensure samples are packaged appropriately and delivered to the lab (lab located in Conroe, TX) by 3:00 P.M. each day
• Fill out necessary paperwork pertaining to collection and recordkeeping requirements
• Prepare materials and truck for the next day of work
Other position specific requirements:
• Overtime and weekend work may occasionally be required, and the possibility of the schedule shifting to a 4-day, 10 hour per day schedule is possible.
• Vision sufficient to read and interpret chemical and reagent labels, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws, spreadsheets, computer screens, printed items, and street signs and signals
• Hearing sufficient to hear conversation levels in person and via telephone
• Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in front of groups, over the telephone, in meetings, and during training sessions
• Mobility sufficient to safely move in an environmental laboratory and wastewater facility environment, including climbing in and out of company trucks, opening large gates, and climbing multiple flights of stairs
• Dexterity sufficient to safely operate office equipment, specialized tools, and equipment utilized during field and office work
The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday with a start time of 6:00 A.M. and end time ranging between 3:00-5:00 P.M. each day. Up to a 1-hour lunch period may be taken at the employee’s discretion each day. The lab does operate during holidays, and punctuality, strong work ethic, and regular attendance is required.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
A successful Route Driver at NWDLS will:
• Possess a TWIC card (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment for routes requiring it)
• Possess a Class D Water Operator’s license (or willingness to obtain one within 6 months of employment)
• Be comfortable driving routes throughout the greater Houston area (including occasional trips to Dallas, Katy, New Braunfels, Huntsville, Corpus Christi, and other areas of Texas state)
• Must have clean driving record and a valid driver’s license
• Experienced or comfortable driving a pickup truck
• Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and provide exemplary customer service
• Strong route planning skills and/or experience utilizing GPS/maps
$15.00 - $17.00 an hour
