THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The College Park High School football team opened the 2012 season on Friday with a 39-21 victory over Livingston at Woodforest Stadium.

Brett Buckley, making his first varsity start at quarterback, completed three passes - all for touchdowns - and ran for another as College Park built a 21-0 lead but needed a pair of late touchdowns to pull away.

“They made it tough for us,” Cavaliers head coach Richard Carson said of the Lions. “But our passing game was good and our defense came up with some big plays. The (Austin Frederickson) interception was big.”

Frederickson came up with a big pick late in the second half that led to a key score that helped the Cavaliers extend a 27-21 lead late in the third quarter.

Buckley threw touchdown passes of 31, 20 and 40 yards. The first two went to Byron Makel and the final strike found Charrod Henry. Buckley then capped the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run to seal the deal.

Cavaliers’ running back Connor McPherson made his presence felt as well with touchdown runs of 4 and 48 yards. McPherson led all rushers with 103 yards on eight carries.

Oak Ridge falls

The Oak Ridge High School football team opened a new era of War Eagles football on Friday with head coach Dereck Rush. However the hosting Cy-Falls Eagles did not cooperate, handing Oak Ridge a stinging 42-0 defeat to open the 2012 season.

War Eagles quarterback Colby Kitterman rushed and passed for 106 yards.
