SAN FRANCISCO, California – NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy and financial literacy website, has compiled a list of the best cities in Texas for young families.

NerdWallet has ranked The Woodlands as the top city after assessing the city’s public school system, cost of living and economic growth.

As the first master-planned community in the United States, The Woodlands has seen a 69% increase in population between 2000 and 2010. The Woodlands houses several corporate campuses, including Chevron Phillips and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. In addition, most public schools in The Woodlands are rated exemplary by the state of Texas; and both The Woodlands High School and The Woodlands College Park High School were featured on Newsweek’s 2012 list of best high schools in the United States.

“The Woodlands is a great city for new families looking to raise children,” said Divya Raghavan, Analyst, NerdWallet. “The schools are excellent and the property is very likely to appreciate, due to the city’s incredible population growth rate of 22.6% between 2010 and 2011.”

NerdWallet's cost of living calculator reveals that Texan cities are particularly affordable, especially for those young families who may not have accrued much savings. Allen, Flower Mound, and League City also ranked high on NerdWallet’s list.
