THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Alden Bridge Village Association (ABVA) and Lone Star College-Montgomery are pleased to announce Katherine “Katie” Langston as the recipient of ABVA’s inaugural tuition scholarship for LSC-Montgomery students.

While ABVA has provided many scholarships to deserving students who live in The Woodlands Township Village of Alden Bridge and are beginning their college education, this is the first time ABVA has specifically partnered with the college to provide a scholarship to an LSC-Montgomery student. Langston will receive $500 per semester to help cover tuition expenses.

“It’s partnerships like these that truly make a difference in our community,” said Dr. Austin Lane, president of LSC-Montgomery. “We’re grateful for the generosity of ABVA and their investment in our students and their future.”

ABVA is a non-profit civic organization representing the more than 22,000 residents of Alden Bridge. Scholarships are funded 100 percent by the volunteer efforts of ABVA board members and the generous contributions made by participating corporate sponsors.

“We have always felt the need to establish a program with our outstanding neighbor, LSC-Montgomery,” said Angela Speight, ABVA scholarship committee chairman. “We are delighted to see this new program begin with such a fine young lady as Katie. Congratulations Katie!”

Langston, a 2013 graduate of The Woodlands High School, recently completed her first course at LSC-Montgomery this summer. With career aspirations to become a neonatal nurse, Langston plans to attend LSC-Montgomery for two years before transferring to Sam Houston State University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing and eventually, a master’s degree in neonatal nursing.

“I am very grateful to the Alden Bridge Village Association for investing in me and my education,” said Langston. “I look forward to my college experience and learning how to enhance the life of a newborn—giving it a healthy start in life. I cannot think of a career more rewarding than this.”
