Help us help you by following the guidelines for debris pickup. The debris needs to be separated and placed on the county right-of-way for the trucks to pick it up. The contractors will not go on private property.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - After another tour of the county by FEMA officials and the Montgomery County Office Emergency Management, the Commissioner's Court has approved a bid to have the debris field can be cleared away. The MCOEM recommends taking the following steps, and the method for separating the debris.

  • Register a damage report at Residential Damage Report
  • When a damage report is registered, the resident is added to the list for debris cleanup. If you can't fill out a report online, you can also call the hotline at 936-523-3916 or 1-800-451-1954, for assistance with home cleanup.
  • Separate the debris according to the stipulations issued by FEMA. (See below)
  • Move the debris to the curb in the county’s right-of-way, but away from mailboxes, gas or water meters, power lines, and drainage ditches.

The MCOEM has stated that the debris is NOT to be bagged, and to separated into separate piles per the following…

1. Put household trash out per the community’s covenants. If recycling is picked up, separate it from unrecyclable trash and put in the appropriate trash receptacles. This will be picked up by the waste service company.

2. Tree debris...trunks, branches and any other vegetative debris that needs to be discarded.

3. Building debris...sheetrock, carpet and pad, flooring, lumber, shingles

4. Domestic and commercial large appliances, also referred to as ‘white goods,’ including hot water heaters.

5. Electronics...TVs, computers, monitors, and other e-waste.

6. Household hazardous waste: automotive fluids, cleaning supplies, paint

In order to expedite the collection process, debris needs to be sorted, unlike that shown in the video.

The MCOEM recommends taking photos of the discarded items and the damage to dwelling and property.
