Mosquito season is coming to a close, but the Precinct 3 Mosquito Abatement Team is staying busy
THE WOODLANDS, TX – As evening temperatures begin to cool and disease activity in the local mosquito population dies down, the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Mosquito Team will transition into off-season activities such as equipment maintenance, staff training, data analysis and research.
While mosquito activity is suppressed by low temperatures, many adult mosquitoes can survive over the winter by taking shelter in covered areas. Because of this, any warm fronts that move through the region may cause those dormant mosquitoes to become active again, even if only for a few hours or days. Residents are encouraged to keep their insect repellent handy just in case the weather warms up unexpectedly.
Limited mosquito trapping will continue throughout the winter to monitor population levels. The teams that are conducting this winter trapping also will search for newly created mosquito-breeding sites in the county right of way and flag them for correction or treatment.
Any issues that may potentially become mosquito-breeding sites can still be reported to the Mosquito Team by visiting the Precinct 3 website at www.precinct3.org.
