Dragon Bowl C Rocks the House
CONROE, TX -- Some say their egg rolls are off the charts. That their ramen is pho-tastic. Their portion sizes are out of this world. Texas size. It’s a place you might see an anime character or two hanging out. Where you can walk next door, have a seat, and enjoy what you ordered; while partaking in a beer, and listening to live music. They have fruity and milky teas, stir-frys, wings, fries, anything and everything that will satisfy your downtown Conroe’s Switch munchies on any night of the week. ‘Dragon Bowl C’ is a hole in the wall shop next to The Corner Pub located at the intersection of North Main and Simonton Streets. But be forewarned. Be careful with the heat, because DB-C may be a hole in the wall, and a tasty one at that. I’d advise you to work your way up with the hot stuff. Walk before you run..
I had been in the TCP to do a ‘A Sip And A Thought’ column on their Moscow Mule, weeks ago, and as in most things, word gets around, and before I know it, I get requests to try things, and this occasion was no different.
DB-C’s manager, Andi, coaxed me in with a Brisket Egg Roll. Say what? Ah man, whoever came up with this egg roll deserves a medal. I don’t know where to start. The crispy wrapper is filled with the savory and moist brisket, made especially for Dragon Bowl C by a local supplier. It comes drizzled with BBQ sauce, and your choice of sauce for dipping. The Brisket Egg Roll, really excites the taste buds, and almost makes you feel giddy for the new taste sensations you are experiencing. It's a true Asian BBQ fusion that deserves your attention.
I next tried a kid’s size Brisket Bowl, which still looked Texas size to me. I had rice noodles, corn, and beef broth, but you build it the way you want. It had an awesome aroma, and I do like the heat, but I received the mild spice; but Dragon Bowl C can kick it up to the surface of The Sun level. It was very nicely done. Inviting. Tasted great. The meat was tender and was easily handled with the chopsticks and a spoon. The rice noodles melded well with the perfectly seasoned broth. Overall, a nice well rounded dish. No pun intended. If you're not a big eater, order the smaller size, or split it with someone special. Otherwise, eat to your heart's content with the adult portion bowl that is given, and it’s a lot.
For dessert, I tried a Chocolate Creme Egg Roll, which I likened to a Little Debbie Swiss Roll being wrapped in an egg roll wrapper and fried. Again, genius. Pure genius. I can’t wait to see what DB-C chefs will come up with in the future. Chocolate Bar Egg Rolls? Granola Bars? Pumpkin Pie Egg Rolls at Thanksgiving? Baked Alaska Egg Rolls? There are literally tons of sweet options with egg rolls.
In reference to the brisket supplier that I mentioned earlier, Dragon Bowl C also gets a pork butt daily from them for pulled pork. They have tons of specialty egg rolls, like Philly cheese steak, and chicken sriracha. DB-C’s Dragon Bowl Noodles are excellent choices as well, each having their own distinctive textures and tastes. Their Fries and App Starters are also tops as well. They even serve Poutine Fries, Canada’s version of a basket of fries. There are numerous choices, and you will soon find your ‘goto,’ or ‘ride or die.’
Dragon Bowl C is the perfect spot to satisfy your craving for Asian fusion, whether you're searching for Boba, Ramen, Pho or just something new, they've got you covered.
