The Grand Oaks Varsity football team kicked off their 2024 season opener with a 48-7 victory against Spring High School.

The home side of the stadium was buzzing with a creative and loud student section, dressed in the pep rally jersey theme.

Grand Oaks wasted no time, taking an early lead with Junior Keilan Guase scoring a touchdown just 7 minutes into the first quarter.

Though the Lions responded with a touchdown and a field goal, bringing them within one point of the Grizzlies, Junior Devon Wallace quickly widened the gap. He ran 39 yards for a touchdown and secured a field goal, putting the Grizzlies up 13-7.

Starting the second quarter, Junior Grant Smith threw a 50-yard pass to Gabriel Despain, scoring the third touchdown of the game. This play alone surpassed their 2023 season record by 20 points.

The Grizzlies didn't stop there. Smith threw to Junior Preston Cloud, who received it and scored another touchdown for the team. The field goal was good, putting the Grizzlies up 27-7. Cloud followed that up with another touchdown on a 40-yard reception.

As halftime rolled around and into the 3rd quarter, the student section brought out more chants and spirit, even holding a banner that covered half of the section with a big grizzly on it.

Keilan Gause scored the final touchdown of the game in the 3rd quarter, bringing the Grizzlies to a 48-7 victory against the Lions and setting them up for a successful season.
