Montgomery County Habitat Partners with The John Cooper School Students to Help Them Gain Real-World Experience

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity is partnering with The John Cooper School for the 25th year to begin construction on a new home for a family in need, providing students with valuable hands on experience while making a positive impact in the community. This long-standing collaboration has enriched the lives of Cooper students and numerous families for over two decades.

The Habitat Project is spearheaded by an Upper School steering committee chairs Bethany Harman, Class of 2025, and Chelsy Fortes, Class of 2025. Through this initiative, students raise a portion of the necessary funding and contribute to the physical construction of a new home each year, working closely with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County. Volunteers and Cooper Upper School students aged 14+ had the opportunity to come together as a community today and build the frame for new homeowners Ester and Manuel.

• Upper School students are primarily responsible for the majority of the home’s construction, gaining real world skills and leadership experience.
• Middle School students assist in the painting of the home, adding their personal touch to the process.
• Lower School students participate by planting flowers and landscaping, enhancing the home’s surroundings and learning the value of contributing to their community.

“We are extremely excited to begin work on the 25th House that John Built, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County. The on-site wall build this Saturday is especially significant as many of our younger high school students will get to participate for their first time in framing the walls of the house. We are so grateful to the extended Cooper family of students, parents and alumni that for twenty-five years has championed our efforts to serve the community,” remarked Samir Muhith, Habitat Project Faculty Sponsor.

Since 1999, The John Cooper School has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to fund and build a home for a family each year. This annual tradition has become a hallmark of the school’s commitment to service, instilling a sense of responsibility, empathy, and leadership in students from a young age.

The John Cooper School’s mission is to provide a challenging education in a caring environment to a diverse group of select students, enabling them to become critical and creative thinkers, effective communicators, responsible citizens and leaders, and lifelong learners.
