THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Twelve Class of 2025 Cooper students were selected to participate in EfTA internships this summer.

Each summer, Education for Tomorrow Alliance’s Student Internship Program (SIP) offers bright, motivated high school seniors hands-on opportunities in their desired field. These internships are designed to provide valuable work experiences for students who are just starting to explore career options. The program offers a first step toward furthering their education and figuring out what direction students want to take in life.

Laura Schroeder, Director of College Counseling at The John Cooper School and on the Board of Directors of EfTA, not only provides mentorship to students regarding colleges and universities to our students, but connects students to external opportunities like EfTA. The process of applying offers insights to our students regarding the job search and the value of networking and of developing transferable skills that can eventually be included in a resume.

Alyssa Kuang, Class of 2025, had the opportunity to intern with Huntsman this summer, focusing on analytical chemistry. Alyssa participated in different techniques such as NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), spectroscopy, and various forms of chromatography to find out the makeup of compounds and formulations, an essential step in the Research and Development process of creating new materials.

“Since I am looking to pursue a career in STEM, and more specifically a science and chemistry-related field, Huntsman provided the perfect opportunity for me to be able to engage with professionals in that area and get a more hands-on experience with a possible future career choice.”

Kuang, Class of 2024, further explains how The John Cooper School played a vital role in her success of this internship: “Cooper has introduced me to so many opportunities similar to this one that have also furthered my experience with the scientific world. Being at Cooper has provided an enriching and supportive environment where I’ve been able to discover and pursue my passion for science.”
