THE WOODLANDS, TX — Today is National Voter Registration Day; though the actual deadline to register to vote in the November general elections is October 7, today is a good day to remind folks to ensure they'll be able to cast their votes.

The clock is ticking for an Oct. 7 deadline

Texas voters must be registered to vote at least 30 days before an upcoming election date, and voters do not have to declare a party affiliation when registering. Local registered voters can check their status on the Montgomery County Elections website at https://elections.mctx.org/. If you're outside of MoCo, you can also hit the Secretary of State's My Voter Portal website at https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do.

To be eligible to vote, you must be a United States citizen, s resident of the county where you register, and at least 18 years old on Election Day (November 5, 2024).

To register to vote in Texas, you must do so physically, not virtually. A complete voter registration application must be at the county election office at least 30 days before the upcoming election date. To complete an application, you may:

  • Complete an application using the Secretary of State Online Voter Registration Application page at https://vrapp.sos.state.tx.us/index.asp. Simply fill in the required information, print, sign and mail the completed application directly to your county election office;
  • Request a printed application at https://vrrequest.sos.state.tx.us/index.asp. The Secretary's office will mail a postage-paid voter registration application to the address provided; OR
  • Contact or visit your local voter registrar to complete the voter registration process.

You can also register to vote when renewing your Driver License. If you’re not already registered to vote but have an existing Texas Driver License or state identification card, you can register to vote online when renewing, replacing or changing your contact information for either of these cards through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Once you're registered, you can update your voter registration information online. Whether you’ve recently moved or changed your name, you can now update all your information on your voter registration record through the portal at https://txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/sos/SOSACManager.

Important dates to remember this election season include:

  • October 7: Last day to register to vote
