HS Volleyball Playoffs: College Park and Grand Oaks Continue the Charge into the State Semifinals
WACO, TX -- The College Park Lady Cavaliers and Grand Oaks Lady Grizzlies have fought through the UIL Playoff gauntlet to blaze a trail to the State Semifinals, with action set to take place on Tuesday.
College Park
Following tough sledding through the 13-6A schedule, the battle-hardened Lady Cavaliers have come against fierce competition and emerged unscathed.
Emphatic play from all-star libero Morgan Madison and the high-flying College Park front row has pushed the team along its path to one of the program’s deepest playoff runs.
Two sweeps in straight sets and two four-set victories have provided lopsided wins in the Lady Cavs’ favor. Their effort through some highly-ranked teams in the state proves that the work from Coach Candice Collins Gibson and her staff is working tremendously.
The team’s victory over Royse City in a hard-fought, four-set win keeps the train moving for College Park into the state’s final four. The reward is a matchup against the toughest competition the Lady Cavs will have faced on the season, Byron Nelson.
The Lady Bobcats enter their Tuesday matchup against College Park as the number-one team in the nation according to MaxPreps. The Fort Worth high school has been among the best teams in the country for multiple years, but the plucky Lady Cavs will look to play the underdog in their highest stake game of the year.
College Park’s season is on the line against the nation’s best and Waco Midway High School will be the venue. The action will begin at 6 P.M., and the loyal Cavalier fans will be amongst the most vocal fans in attendance.
Grand Oaks
The Lady Grizzlies’ quest to repeat as 6A State Champions has seen the team thrash all who stand in their way.
13-6A’s Champion and reigning State Champions have continued their dominant run with highlight-reel plays from players like Samara Coleman and Halle Thompson that keep their opponents in awe.
With four opponents taken down, Grand Oaks has yet to drop a single set through tournament play ahead of the State Semifinals. This incredible stretch includes a third straight win over The Woodlands, whom the Lady Grizzlies sent home in their Regional Final match on Friday.
Now that another top-25 team has been vanquished by Grand Oaks, another test of strength comes in the form of Allen High School.
Texas’ 18th-ranked team has battled through tough Dallas-Fort Worth-based teams throughout their journey to the State Semis. But despite some of the best teams in the state coming against them, the Lady Eagles have overcome the tests to remain in the playoff fixture.
Grand Oaks will enter the match on Tuesday as the favorite according to rankings and prestige, but overlooking talented teams can spell disaster for the aspiring repeat champions.
For those looking to get in on the Grand Oaks action, China Spring High School will host the final four match, starting at 6 P.M. on Tuesday.
