‘Twas the week before Thanksgiving and all through the Township, the editors at Woodlands Online realized there were no good rhymes for ‘Township’ to finish the sentence. What IS good, however, is the sheer number of pre-Thanksgiving events happening this week in the area. Here’s a list of some of our favorites.

Monday, November 18
It’s a Monday Night Melee at Sawyer Park Icehouse tonight! Come cheer on the Houston Texans as they face the Dallas Cowboys in a House Divided Texas-sized battle. This watch party will have lots of specials to help you cheer on your favorite team.

Wednesday, November 20
The Woodlands Children’s Museum hosts Looking at Art Lady Presentation today at 11:00 a.m. Children and adults will enjoy this light-hearted journey through art history. Famous paintings throughout time will plant a seed of interest in the fine arts for you and your child. They will briefly talk about each painting but quickly shift to giggles as each piece will have a parody version. Children will be introduced to various pop culture faces and characters in the parody while subtly remembering the original piece.

The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce’s Breakfast Connections is open to all Chamber members and guests. Members in attendance will be given the opportunity to give a 60-second commercial on the microphone. Guests will be allowed to give their name, title and company name (no commercial time). Members should plan to arrive early. The event will start promptly at 7:01 a.m. (because 7 o’clock is just too darned early). For added publicity, members are encouraged to bring a door prize. The lighting of the 70-foot Christmas tree in Market’s Street Central Park will officially kick off the holiday season at the 17th Annual Market Street in Lights tonight at 6:00 p.m. In celebration of Market Street’s 20th year of serving the community, the shopping, dining, and entertainment destination is inviting its neighbors to a festive and fun holiday party complete with special guests that include the 2024 Co-Ed UIL State Spirit Championship winning Caney Creek cheerleaders, local musical performers, Elpheba from ‘Wicked,’ the Elf on the Shelf, Elsa, Olaf, Cindy Lou Who, and Martha May Whovier.

The 22nd Annual Junior League Holiday Market in The Woodlands is a festive shopping event offering a wide array of items, from local boutique treasures to personalized gifts and holiday ornaments. Actually, this one will be running through the end of the year. Join Woodlands Church for a heartwarming and inspiring Christmas celebration at their Festival of Lights, where they encourage everyone to come together to honor the birth of Christ. Experience the joy and wonder of the season through beautiful light displays. This year, they’re excited to introduce a brand-new Winter Wonderland snow area, offering fun for everyone. Tickets to the new Festival of Lights Christmas Path range from $10 - $20 for ages 5 and above. All proceeds benefit local missions. Admission to the Festival of Lights Plaza area is free.

Get ready to step back into the Roaring ‘20s at ‘A Gatsby Affair,’ the Kaylee Mills Foundation’s 4th Annual Buckled in Black Gala, presented by The Law Office of D'Ann Hinkle. Join them for an evening of inspiration as they honor the families and supporters in our community. Guests will enjoy exciting live and silent auctions, entertainment, and more at this premier fundraising event of the year. The Foundation’s mission is to prevent fatalities and injuries from non-seat belt use, while also offering financial and emotional support to families affected by vehicle accidents.

The Lighting of the Doves Festival is a long-standing tradition in The Woodlands that signifies the start of the holiday season in the community. Symbolizing peace during the holidays, the ceremonial illumination of the giant doves has attracted thousands of visitors each year. The Festival includes traditional and international performances, showcasing the cultural diversity of The Woodlands and holiday traditions celebrated around the world. Featuring snow play areas, vendor booths, children’s activities. and strolling entertainment, Lighting of the Doves culminates with a special appearance by Santa Claus arriving by sleigh down The Woodlands Waterway and a dazzling fireworks display.
