Lone Star College Foundation aces golf tournament for student success
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Lone Star College Foundation hit a hole-in-one for students at the 31st annual Drive for Scholarships Golf Tournament held Nov. 18 at The Woodlands Country Club. The event raised $175,550 to financially assist LSC students like Sergio Iraheta in achieving their educational goals.
"Lone Star College Foundation scholarships help students like me eat a meal without worrying about affording tuition, books, fees and other academic costs," said Iraheta, former LSC Foundation scholarship recipient. "I am thankful to the generous community partners and Lone Star College Foundation for helping to put my puzzle together and providing the pencils and paper needed to bring my dreams to life."
The Drive for Scholarships Golf Tournament is one of LSC Foundation's major fundraisers and helps change lives. This year, 224 registered golfers and 63 volunteers (mainly LSC employees) raised money to fund educational programs, emergency funds, endowments and scholarships. Proceeds will fund 42 golf tournament scholarships.
"Lone Star College Foundation is grateful to the many sponsors, underwriters, and golfers for providing LSC students the opportunity to begin, complete, and succeed in school and life," said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSC Foundation executive director. "We can't do this work alone, so we are honored to partner with individuals and businesses to support our hard-working students."
LSC Foundation provided over $3 million in scholarships to 2,566 students and $3.3 million in program and emergency support to Lone Star College. Chesmar Foundation, the tournament sponsor, and 62 sponsors and underwriters supported the golf tournament event. See a list of all event sponsors and underwriters at LoneStar.edu/Golf2024.
"The Drive for Scholarships Golf Tournament is more than just a day of golf; it shows how much we care about the next generation and their success," said Jon Scanlon, LSC Foundation golf tournament chair. "Together, we are opening doors to opportunities, creating pathways to success and strengthening the very fabric of our community."
