Montgomery County Commissioners Court appoints new Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3
THE WOODLANDS, TX – At the first Montgomery County Commissioners Court session of the year, the commissioners – including newly elected Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler – were tasked with filling the vacant slot of Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace. Matt Beasley, the previous JP, had resigned to accept the position of Chief of Staff with Commissioner Wheeler.
Per a social media post on Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough’s page, the court took action to appoint a new Justice of the Peace to fill Beasley’s unexpired term. Jay Mac (aka Jaymac) Sanders, a local businessman in the real estate industry, was appointed.
“I’m proud to introduce and announce that Jaymac Sanders was appointed and just sworn in [as] Justice of Peace for Precinct 3. Jaymac will fulfill the unexpired term and will begin in his new role immediately. Congratulations Judge Sanders!” said Keough in his statement.
In Texas, justices of the peace hear traffic and other Class C misdemeanor cases punishable by fine only, hear civil cases with up to $20,000 in controversy, hear landlord and tenant disputes.
Hears truancy cases, perform magistrate duties, conduct inquests, and may perform marriage ceremonies.
