CONROE, TX -- At approximately 0856 hours on January 12, 2025, Conroe Police Officers responded to a call about a possible suicide at a residence located in the 2900 block of Palominos Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male subject, later identified as 36-year-old Vonnie Clay Holcomb, sitting in the driver's seat of a 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck, slumped over with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Initial indications led officers to believe the incident was a suicide. However, as the investigation unfolded, further evidence contradicted this conclusion. Video surveillance footage from a nearby residence revealed a male exiting the passenger side of the pickup truck and walking away from the scene, leading investigators to reclassify the incident as a homicide.

Through the investigation, officers identified 61-year-old Everton Edwards as a suspect in the case. An arrest warrant was obtained, and Edwards was taken into custody without incident. Edwards and Holcomb were known to each other, but a motive for the homicide has not been established at this time.

The Conroe Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
