MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On January 29, 2025, Sheriff Wesley Doolittle and the command staff joined Commissioner Gray and surrounding agencies to honor the legacy of Patton Village Police Sergeant Stacey Baumgartner.

On Father’s Day, June 19, 2016, Sgt. Baumgartner was involved in a fatal crash at the intersection of FM 1485 and TX 242 while in pursuit of a suspect. During the incident, the suspect caused a collision between Baumgartner’s patrol car and a vehicle carrying members of the Hilario family. This section of TX 242 is significant as it marks the location where Sgt. Baumgartner tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

Nearly nine years after his passing, the section of Texas 242 from U.S. Highway 59 to FM 1485 will forever bear his name. The official dedication of the "Sergeant Stacey Baumgartner Memorial Highway" took place today, honoring Sergeant Baumgartner's ultimate sacrifice.
