Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department to host fundraiser for Project Fire Buddies
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department has announced that it is hosting a fundraiser for an organization that partners with fire departments to bring joy and support to children battling critical illnesses.
‘Never Forget Means Never Forget’ is the name of the event benefiting Project Fire Buddies. This organization was founded in 2016 by CEO Kurt DeGroot. It began as a true grass roots effort that incorporated at the end of 2019 and officially became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in January of 2020. Since its inception, it has steadily grown and expanded; from 2023 to 2024 alone, the organization grew more than 550 percent across all facets. The mission is simple yet powerful: no child should face their fight alone.
The special fundraising event on May 24 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the KC Event Center, 2655 FM 1488 in Conroe. At the event, Retired Deputy Chief Robert “Butch” Cobb from New Jersey will share his firsthand experiences from Ground Zero during 9/11.
Cobb is a 35-year veteran of Jersey City Fire Department who has held roles including Chief of Training, Chief of Operations, and Citywide Tour Commander. For his actions on 9/11, he received JCFD’s Class “A” Medal of Honor and a Heroism Citation from New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevy. After retiring, he served as National Director of Community Hazard Mitigation for Verisk Analytics / ISO until 2013.
“Join us for a powerful presentation with Deputy Chief Cobb. His powerful talk will be a truly memorable and moving experience,” said Josh Kennedy, Fire Chief / EMT-B of Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department.
