THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Following the recent retirement announcement of Tomball ISD Director of Athletics Kevin Flanigan, Tomball ISD announces current Tomball High School Principal Chris Scott has accepted the promotional opportunity to serve as the District’s next Director of Athletics. This transition will become effective at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

“With deep roots in the Tomball community as an alumnus coupled with years of leadership experience at the highest level in Texas, we are excited to name Chris Scott our new Director of Athletics,” said Dr. Steven Gutierrez, TISD Chief Operating Officer. “He is committed to building on our strong tradition of excellence in athletics and brings instructional leadership experience to his role to continue emphasizing the importance of success in both in the classroom and on the field. We look forward to him supporting our coaches, elevating the student-athlete experience, and ensuring our athletic programs continue to succeed and develop well-rounded student-athletes that are prepared for life beyond high school.”

Chris Scott will transition into this District leadership role with 28 years of experience in education, most notably the last 17 years serving at the district and secondary level within Tomball ISD.

His years of experience began back in 1997 where he spent five years as a teacher and a varsity coach at the secondary level between three high school stops at Houston-area school districts. From there, he was promoted to campus leadership positions before finding his way home to Tomball. In 2008, he rejoined TISD as the Director of Math and Science. In 2016, he was tasked with opening Creekside Park Junior High as its inaugural Principal before moving on to Tomball High School a year later.

As a Director of Athletics, Mr. Scott will bring experience as a campus leader and an instructional leader who emphasizes student-athlete achievement and the promotion and development of the whole student-athlete.

Once a student-athlete himself, Mr. Scott was a standout baseball player at THS, moving on to play at the collegiate level at the University of Houston.

As an alumnus of Tomball ISD, he will build on the strong community partnerships that have been established among the athletics community, and is a visible and approachable leader who can continue to leverage support through upgrades and sponsorships.

He has proven to be a leader of Champions, most notably serving as the campus administrator for the 2024 UIL 6A Baseball State Champion Cougars and numerous district championships over the years. He has also overseen academic success among athletic programs where teams have been honored at the national level for their work in the classroom.

This new role will allow him the opportunity to leverage his strengths of relationship building by supporting student-athletes, coaches, and support staff district wide and through an exciting time in Tomball ISD history with the opening of its third comprehensive high school, Tomball West High School, in August 2026.

Again, Mr. Scott will assume this new role following the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
