CONROE, TX -- Joe Folsom, newly appointed Artistic Director for The Players Theatre Company, announced the shows scheduled for the prominent Conroe community theatre’s 59th season which will begin in August 2025 and continue through July 2026.

New Artistic Director focuses on the theme “Family Matters”

"The season's theme of “Family Matters” is reflected in all our titles, showcasing the complex and life-affirming relationships of family,” Folsom said. “Full of humor, laughter, joy, sorrow, and triumph, this upcoming season has something for everyone. It is about inviting and welcoming new artists and audiences to experience some iconic as well as some contemporary stories in fresh and dynamic ways that our audiences may not have seen before."

The season will kick off with the classic favorite, Fiddler on the Roof, which has touched audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty. Carrie: The Musical, based on the thrilling novel by Stephen King, will follow. The holiday season will feature an adaptation of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol filled with joyful songs and magical spirits. Big Fish, based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, will lead off the new year, followed by the blockbuster smash Jesus Christ Superstar.

Folsom will direct his own adaptation of the Anton Chekov classic The Cherry Orchard in the spring. “This new adaptation includes the farcical elements originally intended by Chekhov, as well as live music, dancing, and the infamous gun,” he said. “The intention is to elevate the story to a generous spectacle that draws the audience in for the journey.”

In addition to the regular season offerings, The Players Theatre Company is presenting two Season Extras. The musical 1776 will coincide with the national celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of The Declaration of Independence. Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, performed in concert and capturing the final performance of vocal legend Billie Holliday, will be part of the theatre’s annual fundraising events.

Performances typically are weekends at The Owen Theatre, 225 Metcalf in downtown Conroe at 7:30pm Friday and Saturday nights and 2:00 for Sunday matinees. Tickets for the season are available by calling the box office at (936) 539-4090 Tuesday through Friday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm or online at www.PlayersTheatreCompany.com. The box office is also open two hours before each performance.

The Players Theatre Company began in 1967 as The Little Theatre of Conroe utilizing the Conroe High School stage and later a refurbished plumbing supply store at the corner of Galveston and Robertson Streets. After helping to restore the historic Crighton Theatre in 1979, the group produced shows there for nearly 30 years as The Crighton Players. In 2008, in a partnership with the City of Conroe, The Players Theatre Company was formed and moved to their current residence at The Owen Theatre.
