Right off the bat, we should let you know that two heat advisories are in effect – one lasting until 7 p.m. tonight and the other lasting until 24 hours after that – and chances are more such advisories will be issued as the weekend progresses. This is because, even though our temperatures aren’t at the record levels they were last year, the humidity is adding a ‘feels like’ heat index that is reaching all the way up to 112 degrees. So no matter what, indoors or out, be careful of the heat; when possible, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

We’ve already hit our high of 95 (not counting the additional 13 degrees added to the heat index thanks to the nearly saturated air, but we’ll stay in the 90s and 80s all night until early tomorrow morning, when the thermometer will briefly touch 79 degrees. If you want some indoor excitement this evening, hit Copendero Indoor Range for their Full Auto Friday event and take your heat-related frustrations out on paper targets.

Saturday morning will be cloudier than the day before but just as windy, and around lunchtime we’ll be experiencing some isolated thunderstorms as the pressure rises. Once again, the high will ‘only’ be in the mid 90s, but the humidity will bump it up to where it feels like 109 at least. The Woodlands Arts Council’s ‘Art Matters’ workshop is the perfect indoor creative reprieve from the heat. By mid evening, the storms and clouds and rain will all significantly abate, allowing for a relatively serene overnight with lows that won’t hit the 70s until three o’clock in the morning.

All day Sunday, the rains will be a memory (with the possible exception of an afternoon mild spate) as the pressure front hits its high and starts to drop. All day the skies will be partly cloudy with barely a breeze to ruffle the hair. It will be another high of 96, with only ten more degrees added to the heat index. For some indoor family fun, head out to Painting With a Twist for a special Family Night

Though we’ll see another overnight low in the mid 70s, all next week the thermometer will flirt with making it all the way up to 100…
