Summer is swinging away in this final weekend before most local school districts resume operations. For the most part, it will be sunny, hot, and breezy, hopefully making for some nice memories once the school bell rings.

We’re on the down side of today’s high temperature of 97 – with an additional gobsmacking 15 degrees added to the heat index thanks to the humidity – and we should be out of the 90s before bedtime, but we won’t even touch the 70s for a low until just before sunrise, so this might be a good time to register for those ‘free overnight’ deals from your local energy provider. If you’re dining out, why not make a reservation at Fielding’s and take advantage of Houston Restaurant Weeks? Later this evening, we might mysteriously have a brief spate of rain, but if it even arrives it will be sparse and quickly evaporated.

As the pressure continues to rise throughout Saturday, the breezes will pick up – mild at about 7 mph or so – and some clouds will dot the sky. Neither will do too much, however, to keep the mercury from hitting 97 again, but mercifully the heat index will only be five degrees or so higher this time. We’ll be cool indoors at the YES to YOUTH Pop Art Gala… will we see you there? Around sundown, the winds will peak and start to diminish, and the clouds will dissipate as well. Again, it would be odd to call the low of 74 the ‘overnight’ low as we’ll be well into Sunday morning before it hits.

Speaking of Sunday, the entire day will be pretty much cloud free, so with nothing between you and the big blazing ball of gas 93 million miles away we encourage you to drink lots of clear fluids, wear sunscreen, and dress accordingly. Again, the afternoon winds will max out at about 7 miles per hour, but soon enough will die down. The high temperature will mimic the day before, and the heat index will be a degree or two lower. Take advantage of the outdoors amenities of Market Street by shooting some family photos, maybe.

All in all, this is a great weekend to wind up summer break vacation, so enjoy it while it lasts. While temps next week will remain in the mid to upper 90s, we may just see some thunderstorms around Tuesday…

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for Monday’s weekly weather forecast.
