On the down side, a lot of steady rain is predicted for the long Labor Day weekend. On the plus side, that means the chances of accidental fires due to fireworks and outdoor cooking are at a bare minimum.

All weekend long (and in the proceeding foreseeable future), we won’t get out of the 80s for our highs and we’ll remain comfortably in the mid-70s for our lows, with breezes pushing along the storm clouds and rains slowly but steadily.

The rest of our Friday will be cool and overcast; we’re already nearly at the high of 87, where the mercury will stay for a couple of hours, then the temperature will start to drop along with the breezes. If you need to blow off some steam tonight at the end of a long work week, or just want to hone your skills, Copendero Indoor Archery, Pistol, & Rifle Range is offering Full-Auto Friday specials.

Overnight into Saturday, it will remain relatively calm, but we’ll most likely wake up to morning showers under fully covered skies. It won’t even get out of the 70s until close to lunchtime, as the threat of small amounts of rain will linger most of the day. As Saturday goes into Sunday, the cloud coverage will abate somewhat, but not enough to help the heat index feel about ten degrees warmer than the natural high of 87. As the day progresses, however, the chances of afternoon rains will increase as the clouds come back for an overnight stay. The big event planned for the day is the Labor Day Celebration complete with fireworks, but keep tuned to us in case the weather has other plans for it.

For the third night in a row, the low temperature will hover around 75; these moderate temps will give our home AC units a well-earned downtime. Interestingly, the Labor Day Monday morning temperature will actually go down a bit after sunrise, turning around and warming only in the late morning. As the pressure starts to rise, the clouds will grow darker, and you can look for some more considerable thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Take advantage of the holiday by getting a start on the winter holidays; Learning Express Toys is holding a Labor Day sale all day.

As the holiday weekend draws to a close, expect cool dampness and outright wetness the entire time with some dry spells briefly in between, and also expect the rain to continue a couple of more days into next week…

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for Monday’s weekly weather forecast.
