Texas Rush recently announced the addition of Meredith Flaherty to the girl’s competitive coaching staff.

Flaherty has a long successful history in soccer both as a player and more recently as a coach. She was a three-year starting goalkeeper at Clemson University before going to the University of Florida for graduate school in 1998 where she was honored as an All-American, NCAA Defensive MVP, and won the NCAA Div. I National Championship.

Flaherty was also a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team Pool from 1996-2001 and was selected to the roster in 1997 for the Nike Tour. Her success as a student-athlete and as a national pool player earned her the assistant coach position at the University of Florida and subsequently at Louisiana State University.

In 2001 Flaherty was the first goalkeeper ever drafted in the WUSA Professional League playing for the New York Power. Since 2004, Flaherty has been a Director of Coaching at Virginia Rush, overseeing all aspects of the girl’s program, notably managing the teams participating in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL).

Along with her coaching responsibilities in Virginia, Flaherty is also a Region 1 Olympic Development Program (ODP)senior staff coach with experience in coaching regional teams in national and international competitions.

Flaherty will be taking over the U12 and U14 Girls Nike teams. Along with coaching these already very talented teams, Flaherty plans to help the Texas Rush girl’s program any way that she can.
