Journi Williams, a total newcomer to track and field qualified fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 15.09. The 2013-2014 fifth-grader at Wilkerson Intermediate was elated that she qualified for the Junior Olympics.

Tripp Piperi, not to be outdone by his little brother, also pulled a double in the Youth Boys Division, winning the shot put with a throw of 58 feet and the discus with a throw of 186 feet.

Coach Hurd stated, “When I introduced track & field to these two kids several years ago, I knew that they would blossom. Their father Adrian Piperi, my good friend, has done a wonderful job with them”.

The AAU Junior Olympics will be hosted from July 26 - August 3 at Eastern Michigan University.
