Birnham Woods Elementary School
Congratulations to our October Bulldog Best winners for displaying the character trait “Respect.”
Popcorn on the Patio Party will be held on Friday, October 25 beginning at 2 p.m.
October 28 begins Red Ribbon week where “Bulldogs Team Up Against Drugs.” There is a fun theme for each day of the week. Monday is “I'm too Bright for Drugs,” wear bright colors to school. Tuesday is “Sock it to Drugs,” wear silly or mismatched socks to school. Wednesday is “SLIP past Drugs,” wear favorite slippers to school. Thursday is “Hair's to a Drug-Free Life,” wear crazy hair to school. Friday is “Bulldogs Team Up Against Drugs,” wear a BWE shirt to school.
October 29 we will have class group pictures along with picture retakes.
Please return your Boosterthon Fun Run pledges if you haven't done so already. We are working hard to get the pledges in and counted for. Thank you again for your generous contributions.
Broadway Elementary School
Broadway is celebrating our dads with Fitness Friday with Dads on Friday, October 25 at 7 a.m. The cafeteria and gym will be filled with dads, granddads, uncles, brothers and students exercising to music.
We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week beginning October 28 with a week full of activities to help children be aware. The theme of our week is: Be All You Can Be: Be Drug Free! Our week of activities include: Monday - Be "RED"y to say No to drugs!, Tuesday - Team Up Against Drugs, Wednesday - Your Future is Bright - Be Drug Free, Thursday - Drug Free from Head to Toe, and Friday - Broadway Rocks Drug Free!
The Book Fair begins on October 28.
Then on October 31, we will celebrate the students who made the A-B Honor Roll. On November 1, we will celebrate those children who made the A Honor Roll and we will end the day with the Broadway Walk of Fame, celebrating the "culture of kindness" at Broadway. Buckalew Elementary School

Collins Intermediate School
Congratulations to sixth graders Andrew He, David Liu, and Jonathan Wang. They auditioned for TMEA Region IX Jr. High All-Region Orchestra this past Saturday. Jonathan placed 35 out of over 100 viola players who auditioned, just missing the cut-off to be included in the orchestra. Andrew and David were two of 66 violinists selected to be in All-Region out of over 200 who auditioned. Andrew and David will perform in the Philharmonic Orchestra in November. Great job!
Cox Intermediate School

Ford Elementary School
Ford H.E.A.R.T. Assemblies for first and second grades are scheduled for October 24.
Ford is gearing up for Red Ribbon Week, October 28 – November 1. Students and staff will be participating in a different theme each day which emphasizes the importance of being drug-free and making healthy choices.
Galatas Elementary School
Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated October 28 - November 1 to encourage students to make healthy choices daily. Motivational Productions will be coming on Tuesday, October 29, to help celebrate Red Ribbon Week. This multimedia program is designed to inspire, motivate and challenge students to make healthy choices and develop strong character.
Glen Loch Elementary School
Gator Run is coming soon and students are busy collecting pledges and getting ready to run their laps. The Gator Run raises money for the Parent Teacher Organization while students learn the fun of running and getting exercise. Come watch and cheer on your student during their specials class on Friday November 1.
Hailey Elementary School
The Parent Teacher Association announces a school spirit night at Taco USA Thursday, October 24 at 5-9 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from Hailey customers will be donated to the Parent Teacher Association to benefit the school.
The annual Math/Science Night is also scheduled for Thursday, October 24 at 6-7 p.m. in the school gym. This event, hosted by the math and science teachers, is enjoyed by students and parents alike.
Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.
Students and parents are invited to dress up for the annual Boo Bash, to be held in the school gym Friday, October 25 at 6-8 p.m.
October 28 through November 1 is Red Ribbon Week. Students will have daily lessons and activities about healthy choices and a drug free life.

Kaufman Elementary School
Cougars will be celebrating fall this month in the library by participating in the Storybook Pumpkin Museum. They can choose to decorate a pumpkin to look like their favorite book character. Pumpkins will be due October 28. Classes will visit the museum October 29 – 31.
Red Ribbon Week will begin October 28. The theme for the week is I Believe in Me, I'm Drug Free. Monday, October 28 is “Follow Your Dreams, Stay Drug Free” students can wear pajamas to school and they will receive a Red Ribbon. Tuesday, October 29 is “Red Hot Against Drugs,” students wear red. Wednesday, October 30 is “I'm Tutu Smart to Get Tied to Drugs” students wear tutus and ties. Thursday, October 31 is “A Healthy Me is Drug Free” students wear Fun Run shirts.
Knox Junior High School
The Coats for Kids Drive will be hosted September 30 – October 28. Bring in your gently used items to help those in need.
Red Ribbon Week will be hosted October 21-25. Dress up days will be as follows: Monday, October 21 – “Put a Cap on Drugs; then Sock It To Drugs” – wear cap/hats and socks; Tuesday, October 22– “Team Up Against Drugs” – wear your favorite team jersey; Wednesday, October 23– “We Are Too Super To Do Drugs” – wear superhero clothes' Thursday, October 24– “We Are Too Classy To Do Drugs” – wear formal attire; and Friday, October 25– “Stick It Too Drugs” – wear duct tape.
The first dance of the school year will be hosted Friday, October 25 from 4-7 p.m.
Basketball Try-outs will be Wednesday, October 31 through Friday, November 1. Participants must attend try-outs all three days. Seventh grade tryouts will begin at 6:45 a.m. and eighth grade try-outs will be held after school from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Klabo in Room 207.
The Knox PTO will be hosting a “Shop for the Shelter” Community Project benefiting the Montgomery County Women's Center in their fight against domestic violence. From October 21-25 Knox Knights will be collecting non-perishable food items, new blankets (adult, child and infant), cash, coins and checks made out to MCWC. Gift cards are also welcomed and preferred from a location that houses a pharmacy. Financial donations and gift cards are used for pharmaceutical needs, infant formula, pedialyte and special food allergies. Students can drop off their donations in car line or bring them to their 3rd period class. Make sure the items are labeled with their third period teacher's name. The third period with the most donations wins a pizza party!!! Donate more than last year ($1,890 and a truck full of food.) On Saturday, October 12, many members of the Orchestra competed in the Region 9 Junior High School All Region Orchestra tryouts at Oak Ridge High School. Over four hundred students competed for a spot in the two orchestras that will perform at Klein Forest High School on Saturday, November 23. The following Knox Orchestra students made the 2013 Region 9 Junior High School Orchestras: Vishnu Sajit, Anne Chan, Ruth Simpson, Ryann Jones, Kyle Jungbluth, Sofia Fuentes, Gage Hatchett, Amy Sanders, Jacob Gordon, Andrew Yu, Marianna Flores-Teran, Phillip Gavino, Ninette Siby, Sreya Rahman, Brandon Garza, Isabella Brosvik, Lucas Warma, Ehlysa Ingalls ,and Isabella Cumberland.
Knox Boy Scout, Noah Kotalik, has a passion for supporting local causes that are dear to him with Interfaith of The Woodlands being the beneficiary of his extraordinary efforts. Noah, along with the help of his two brothers Jarrett and Rafe, spearheaded a book drive as part of an annual Back to School event. More than 580 books were collected and will be placed in the client waiting room at Interfaith of The Woodlands.
Lamar Elementary School

McCullough Junior High School
Master percussion teacher Ralph Hardimon, a member of the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame visited the McCullough percussion section on Friday, October 11. Mr. Hardimon has consulted throughout the world and his signature Vic Firth drum stick continues to be a best seller.
Red Ribbon Week activities will take place from October 28 through November 1. Theme days are: · Monday - Go For the Goal, Live Drug Free (wear your favorite NFL team shirt.) · Tuesday -Be a Super Hero, Don't Use Drugs (wear your favorite super hero T-Shirt or a cape). · Wednesday - I've Got Better Things To Do Than Drugs (wear your extra-curricular activity shirt such as band, choir, orchestra, sports, theatre arts, student council, campus watch etc.) · Thursday - Put a Cap On Drugs (wear your favorite hat or wear a crazy hat.) · Friday - Drugs Aren't Bright (wear neon or bright colored shirt).
Mitchell Intermediate School
The school would like to thank all of the Book Fair volunteers who assisted each day to make the Book Fair a successful event.
Fifth grade students will be taking a field trip to Ball Corporation Metal Packaging Division in Conroe. LC3 will be going on Wednesday, October 23 and LC2 will be going on Thursday, October 24.
First Quarter Report Cards will be distributed to the students on Friday, October 25.
On Saturday, October 26, the sixth grade choir students will participate in a Choir Solo and Ensemble Competition at Vogel Intermediate.
Sixth grade students will be presenting a Wax Museum on a famous person in history. LC11 will present their Wax Museum on Tuesday, October 29, in the Commons.
Oak Ridge Elementary School
Monday October, 21 through Friday, the 25 we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week to remind kids to say “No” to drugs and alcohol. At the same time the school's librarian, Mrs. Falcon will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair.
Oak Ridge Elementary will host “The NED Show” Monday, November 28. “The NED Show” is an elementary school assembly program promoting positive attitudes, better behavior & academic achievement in school. The character education assembly is based on the acronym NED - Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best.
Oak Ridge High School
Congratulations to the War Eagle tennis team, which on Tuesday won its first district team tennis match of the fall against Bryan, 14 - 5.
Powell Elementary School
Red Ribbon Week continues through Friday, October 25. Panthers dress up while spreading drug prevention messages.
It's time for the Annual Fall Fun Run! The Fun Run will take place at The Woodlands High School and College Park High School on Tuesday, October 29. Every third and fourth grade Panther is invited to participate. Rain Out date is Thursday, October 31.
Snyder Elementary School

This month's Stallion Standouts Ceremony will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 25. Students selected for Stallions Standout have consistently exhibited our monthly Character Counts Stallions Standout Behavior. During the month of October we have focused on Responsibility. Students who were selected for Stallions Standouts this month are students that have shown responsibility on a daily basis. During this celebration, all Stallions Standout students will celebrate with an extra recess, enjoy popsicles on the patio, and receive a free gift courtesy of our PTO. Congratulations to this month's Stallion Standouts!
Friday, October 25 is also our “Stallions Night Under the Stars” from 6-8 p.m.
The Woodlands College Park High School
College Park will be offering the ASVAB Test on October 29 to any junior or senior who is interested in testing; although primarily an entrance/job placement exam for the armed services, military service is not required if you choose to take the ASVAB. Military personnel will be on hand the day of the testing. Students wishing to sign up will need to log into their family connection account, click on the colleges tab, then click on view all upcoming college visits and select ASVAB. They will need to click on sign up, and then sign me up. They can also visit the college and career center to sign up. Parents will not be able to sign students up through their family connection account. You can visit www.asvabprogram.com for information about the exam.
The next event will be from the Theater Department as they present, “Arsenic and Old Lace” by Joseph Kesselring on October 30, November 1, 2 and 4. Presentations will be at 7 p.m. each evening with the house opening up at 6:30 p.m. Ticket prices are as follows, Students $5 and Adults $7.
TWCP Band Booster Club would like to say a big congratulations to our fantastic College Park Cavalier Marching Band and Guard. They came in 9 out of 27 Bands at last Saturdays Bands of America competition at Woodforest Stadium. Way to go! We are so proud of you!
Cavalier Girls Golf finishes third led by Kat Hodges 82 (good for third place individually), the Cavaliers finished in third place at the one day Lady Bear Invitational held at April Sound C.C. Also playing for the Cavaliers were: Gina De La Guardia 94, Julia Leno 99, Cassidy Bosman 106 & Adriana Cook 120. These young ladies will compete again on Monday, October 28 at River Plantation. The Cavalier Golf team started their season with a fourth place finish at the 36th Annual Tiger Classic hosted by A&M Consolidated H.S. and Pebble Creek Country Club. The Cavaliers shot a first round score of 308 and were eager to compete for a medal during the second round. However, the weather was the winner on Saturday as the 2nd round was a washout from rain and lightning with most teams not even finishing 9 holes. The Cavaliers were led by Sophomore Adam Dahlstrom's 75. Other players scores were: Adam Patrick 76, Collin Bryant 78, Pontus Dahlstrom 79 and Brandon Bosman 86. The Cavaliers will return to action on November 1 and 2 at the Conroe Invitational.
The Woodlands High School
We are very proud to announce that a total of 64 seniors have been honored for their scores on the PSAT taken as juniors. Nine students have been named as National Merit Semifinalists. They are John Beetz, Imran Bell, Rebecca Curtis, Zachary Ireland, Bjorn Johnson, Robert Kerins, Christopher Kessinger, William Kuo, Gibraan Rahman, Liam Tobin and Chester Wang. Their scores place these scholars in the top 1% of all students taking the PSAT. These students are now entered into the competition to be named as a Finalist.
Thirty-nine students were recognized by National Merit as Commended Students. They are: Naszrin Arani Shah Pouri, Olivia Baird, Sean Baker, Johnathan Belcher, Blake Bernshausen, Matthew Breitling, Lincoln Bridges, Chloe Cook, Chandler Farqhuar, Catalina Fernandez-Moores, Claire Fiorenzi, Jon Griffith, Henry Higginson, Jason Hulet, Anveet Janwadkar, Mark Jensen, Arvind Kapila, Hannah Knaup, Anushka Kulkarni, William Liang, Riley Martinez, Finola McMahon, Natalie Mueller, Julie Murray, Lena Myers, Joseph Nelson, Alastair Nojek, Andrew Noren, Alexander Quinn, Morgan Routh, David Siller, Jonathan Terpstra, Grant Tozer, Jon Van Balen, Allison Van Cleve and Kelly Wu. Their scores place these thirty scholars in the top 5% of all students taking the PSAT in October of 2012.
Sixteen seniors were recognized by the National Hispanic Recognition Program as Scholars. They are: Miryam Banuelas, David Siller, William Kuo, Rodrigo Mendoza, Riley Martinez, Elena Crouch, Micaela Faya, Catalina Fernandez-Moores, Greta Saldivar, Kelly Porras, Anouar Fraija Rodriguez, Eric Cruz, Jack Agron, Jonathan Terpstra, Alexander Quinn and Alexa Killian.
Mikaela Bankston was recognized as a Semifinalist by the National Achievement Scholarship Program. This program highlights the accomplishments of African American students on the PSAT.
The Woodlands High School Ninth Grade
The week of October 28-November 1, The Woodlands High School Ninth Grade Campus will celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a week celebrated across the United States in memory of Enrique "Kiki" Camerena, a member of the United State Drug Enforcement Administration, who was brutally murdered in Mexico in 1985, after infiltrating drug trafficking bands and successfully helping break up many of them. In 1988, the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth joined with DEA and implemented an eight-day Red Ribbon campaign that spread to places as far away as Europe. Since then, the National Red Ribbon Week is celebrated to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a Drug-free America, and is dedicated to Enrique "Kiki" Camarena and all of the people who have been wrongly killed due to the violence of drugs. Red ribbons will be placed around trees in the courtyard and on the campus to signify the meaning behind Red Ribbon Week. There will also be other clubs and organizations doing various activities around the campus to commemorate the efforts of all of those who stand against drugs.
Attention Parents and Students in Grades 9-12. The Conroe ISD Career & Technical Education Program is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Career Expo scheduled for Thursday, November 7 at the Lone Star Convention Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We are excited about providing our students and parents with the opportunity to meet with business and industry representatives from Montgomery County. We have invited over 90 business and industry representatives to participate. The goal of the Career Expo is to connect your student with Montgomery County career opportunities, internship options, and other workforce opportunities that will enhance your child’s successful transition into the workforce after graduation. Students will have the opportunity to meet with individuals who are working in careers they are interested in. Bring your child to help them investigate future careers and to help them make informed decisions about the future classes at TWHS and their career choices. Take the N Loop 336 West/ Cartwright Road Exit. Turn right into N Loop 336 W/Cartwright Rd. Go 2.9 miles (about 5 minutes) and then turn left into Airport/ Farm-to-market Rd. 1484. Lone Star Convention center will be on the left.
A food drive will be conducted to benefit the Interfaith food pantry beginning Monday, October 21 to the 31. Students may bring a cash (or check) donation to school or a nonperishable canned food for advisement classes. Each dollar donated will be worth 6.5 pounds of food. Student Council will reward the Advisory on each floor that brings in the most "pounds" with a breakfast. The drive is in competition with College Park, and will be measured on a per capita basis. Additional cash or check donation spots will be available at the reception desk at TWHS and at the football ticket sales locations. Let's show our Highlander pride and fill the shelves at Interfaith!
Student Council will be supporting the CISD Police Department's "Coats for Kids" campaign. There will be collection boxes on both campuses to collect gently used coats, jackets and sweaters. CISD Police will distribute all collected items to students in our communities in need. Consider sorting through outgrown outwear to donate to children in need in our community.
Vogel Intermediate School
The Vogel Torque Team is a VEX IQ Robotics Program for around fifty students in the fifth and sixth grades. Coaches for this club are Ms. Nancy Shock and Mrs. Lisa Helberg, while Mr. Scott Rippetoe, who led the 2013 Texas Torque Team to a World Championship, is helping our team learn about robotics. The team is looking forward to an upcoming competition in November. Weekly meetings are currently held for students to become familiar with Lego parts, movement, and creating a program to utilize the best of what their robot can do. As more competitions become known, students will continue to strive to compete to the best of their ability. We look forward to seeing what our Vogel Torque Team creates and wish them good luck in their competitions. The Vogel News Network (VNN) Students are hard at work putting together their morning announcement programs. The students notify the student body of upcoming events both in school and in the surrounding community during their news broadcast via television. The VNN team is led by Mrs. Kathy Cianciulli, librarian at Vogel. They do a great job at keeping us informed of the news events, upcoming movies and weather. At the end of the school year, the students go on a field trip to Channel 2 where they see first-hand news broadcasts and what goes into putting the programs together. Who knows...we may see one of our students on Channel 2 someday!
Wilkerson Intermediate School
Congratulations to Arnel Christopher Chan, sixth grade cello student! Chris recently auditioned for the Region Nine Orchestra and was selected as the “first chair” player in the top Symphony Orchestra. Chris will be representing Wilkerson at the Region Nine Orchestra Clinic and Concert later in November at Klein Forest High School. Sixth grade choir members will be participating in UIL Solo Festival on Saturday, October 26 at Vogel Intermediate School.
Red Ribbon week is October 28 – November 1. Our theme days for this drug-free awareness campaign are as follows: Monday we will be wearing neon and sunglasses, reminding us that our future is bright, with no drugs in sight. Orange is the color to wear on Tuesday - “orange” you glad you're drug free? We will be seeing some crazy socks on Wednesday as we “sock it to drugs!” Thursday we will be scaring drugs away in our Halloween shirts, and Friday we are all “teaming” up against drugs in our favorite team jersey.
Report cards will be going home with students on Tuesday, October 29 in their Tuesday/Newsday folders.
York Junior High School
Congratulations to the athletes of the week: Carly Graham and Deann Petty.
Challenge Day permission forms have been given out. The first 300 students who return their slips will be eligible to attend. The fun will be November 5-7 during the school day in the gym. Don't miss out on a fun and rewarding experience!
Girls’ basketball tryouts will be October 28 - November 1. Seventh graders will start at 7:15 a.m. every morning. Eighth graders will be immediately after school. You must be present at all tryouts. Come dressed and ready to work. A physical is needed in order to tryout. Those interested need to see Coach Kloesel.
