MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Sheriff deputies and other law enforcement agencies pursued a suspect through west Montgomery and north Harris Counties, and also resulting in a patrol car being stolen.

New Caney suspect believed to have hopped a passing train.

The chase occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning, when a Magnolia police officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle, and the driver refused to stop and sped off. Deputies were able to throw down spikes, flattening a tire, and forcing the vehicle into a ditch in Decker Prairie. The suspect took off on foot into a wooded area, pursued by the Magnolia Police officer. The suspect then doubled back and took off in the patrol car. The car’s GPS tracking system led police to the car which had been abandoned on Old Hardin Store Road, north of Tomball and south of Magnolia.

A K-9 unit was able to pick up the suspect’s scent, but the trail went cold at some railroad tracks, leaving the police to believe the suspect hopped a passing train. Police found drugs, a pistol, and several cellphones, in the suspect’s disabled vehicle. According to the police, the suspect’s vehicle is registered to a New Caney resident who has not yet been identified.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Magnolia Police at 281-356-2500, or the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5871. Anonymous tips can be phoned into Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867).
