THE WOOODLANDS, Texas -- The biggest financial aid mistake students and families make is thinking they won’t qualify.

The fact is most students are eligible for some kind of assistance in federal grant money, but understanding how to apply can be confusing.

“Lone Star College knows that applying for financial aid can be a complicated process,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “That’s why we are hosting Lone Star College Stop-In Days. Students and their families can meet with financial aid advisors and get help understanding how to find the funds they are entitled to help pay for college.”

LSC Stop-In Days takes place at all six college locations the week of June 19-22 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Students can get assistance in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA), get help with registration and speak with academic advisors.

Nerdwallet reported that 53 percent of high school graduates in Texas did not complete a FAFSA form in 2014 - 15, leaving more than $327 million unclaimed.

LSC registration advisors will also be on hand to explain the different types of financial aid available including Lone Star College Promise which funds the balance of tuition and mandatory fees due for students that still demonstrate financial need after all grant and scholarship awards are used to pay for tuition and fees.

Books are not covered, but this is not a loan and does not have to be paid back. LSC Promise is funded by the LSC-Foundation.
