THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Every week, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital is proud to offer a breastfeeding support group at its Lactation Center for moms and their babies, at no charge to attendees.

The support group is led by a certified lactation consultant who provides information and resources to teach mothers the necessary skills to successfully breastfeed their babies during and after their hospital stay.

“Research continues to show that breastfeeding is beneficial to babies and their mothers,” said Mary Hersey, RN, director of Women’s & Newborn’s Services at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. “We have board-certified lactation consultants available seven days a week, as well as many other services, to assist in building confidence in mothers that they can achieve a rewarding breastfeeding experience with their babies.”

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands is considered a “Baby Friendly” facility as designated by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc., the U.S. authority for the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

This is a special recognition that exemplifies the hospital’s commitment to the community to provide exceptional comprehensive services offering an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
