Art + Science Celebrated During Spring Break Week at The Woodlands Children’s Museum

THE WOODLANDS, TX – StayCation? Vacation? Enjoy Spring BreaKation at The Woodlands Children's Museum during March 13-19 with a week full of live performances and science-themed activities for children and families. With a specially curated schedule of dancers, magicians, puppeteers, singers, and character visits, families can spend time together engaging in new experiences. The week will also feature Science Palooza, with books and information on famous scientists and inventors. A new hands-on science experiment will be offered each day, allowing children to explore topics in chemistry, astronomy, Earth science, and more.

“Art and science both require a great deal of creativity, and they both allow us to better understand the world around us,” stated Angela Colton, Executive Director of The Woodlands Children’s Museum. “By offering art and science activities at the museum, young children are able to develop their natural curiosity and explore new ideas.”

Below is the schedule of events for Spring BreaKation. Science Palooza activities will take place each day during museum hours. All activities are included with regular admission and free to museum members.

Saturday, March 13 – Celebrate Donald Duck’s Birthday with a sing-a-long and meet and greet at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, and 1:30pm. Bring your camera and enjoy a special moment with our feathered friend.

Monday, March 15 – Science Bingo at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, and 1:30pm along with Storytime with Ms. Frizzle at 11:00am. Children can practice matching and listening skills while discovering new science terms and concepts. Five in a row wins a prize! Join Ms, Frizzle, the favorite character from “The Magic School Bus” book and television series, as she reads What is Science? By Rebecca Kai Dotlich and encourages children to explore their natural curiosity, ask questions, and seek solutions.

Tuesday, March 16 – On Stage with Monty the Magician at 10:45am, 11:45am, and 12:45pm. With Monty as your guide, travel into a dream and enter the world of MAGIC! For over 27 years, Monty has been performing magic and sharing his passion for wonder and illusion with children.

Wednesday, March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day celebration from 10:00am-4:00pm. Children can try their “luck” in a self-guided shamrock scavenger hunt!

Thursday, March 18 – Le Theatre de Marionette Puppet Shows at 11:00am and 1:00pm. Back by popular demand, the museum welcomes masterful puppeteers from the Texas Commission on the Arts touring roster. Performing their show “Silly Strings,” children can enjoy this interactive musical variety show featuring unique trick marionettes including clowns, teddy bears, jugglers, roller skaters, and even Elvis! Visiting from Dallas-Ft. Worth for one day only, families will not want to miss this delightful performance and a chance to join the puppeteers on stage to try your own marionette!

Friday, March 19 – Live music with Texas Commission on the Arts performing artist Juicebox Jukebox at 11:00am and 1:00pm. Visiting the museum for the first time, we are excited to welcome Dallas-based singer/songwriter the Juicebox Jukebox! Through fun, positive music and videos, core subjects and character-building themes are portrayed with a fresh perspective. Juicebox Jukebox is presented with generous support from the Texas Commission on the Arts, to share the talents and creativity of Texas artists with communities across the state.

Spring BreaKation hours are as follows: Sat. 3/13 10:00am-3:00pm; Mon. 3/15 & Tues. 3/16 10:00am-2:00pm; Wed. 3/17, Thurs. 3/18, Fri. 3/19, and Sat. 3/20 10:00am-4:00pm.
