THE WOODLANDS, TX --

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month, promoting the development of strong, vibrant, and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation. This year’s theme, “Where You Belong,” highlights the numerous ways in which park and recreation professionals nationwide cultivate a sense of belonging in their communities by offering inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities, and safe, accessible spaces for meaningful connections.

The Woodlands Township proudly joins this celebration, honoring our community’s full-time park and recreation professionals, as well as part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers. These dedicated individuals play a crucial role in maintaining our community parks and organizing various events and programs the entire community can enjoy.

Parks and Pathways
The Woodlands Township is distinguished by its exceptional parks and recreation facilities and amenities. With 100% of the community’s homes situated within a 10-minute walk of a park, pathway, or open space, residents are offered abundant opportunities for recreation and socializing. Carefully designed and located in all villages throughout The Woodlands, the 150+ community parks are connected by over 220 miles of hike and bike pathways.

Biking
Recently, PeopleForBikes.org ranked The Woodlands as the #1 Best Place to Bike in Texas for 2024. Factors influencing this ranking include accessibility to homes, jobs, core services, retail, transit and recreational amenities. PeopleForBikes recognized the Township's vast pathway network that provides amazing connectivity, allowing residents to maintain a high-quality, dynamic lifestyle. Outdoor Activities
The Woodlands is overflowing with opportunities to enjoy nature and outdoor activities, featuring 90 playgrounds, 80+ tennis courts, 8+ pickleball courts, 43 sports fields, and 37 basketball and volleyball courts. The 14 community pools and eight spraygrounds provide refreshing options during hot Texas days. Additionally, Riva Row Boat House and Lakes Edge Boat House offer a variety of watersport amenities to enjoy throughout the year.

Texas TreeVentures
For those seeking a unique adventure, Texas TreeVentures offers an aerial adventure course located at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park, adjacent to the George Mitchell Nature Preserve. This preserve is home to abundant wildlife, several miles of wooded trails, and Spring Creek, offering an immersive nature experience.

The Woodlands Township’s Parks and Recreation Department also manages two recreation centers: The Recreational Center at Bear Branch and the Recreational Center at Rob Fleming Park.
